About this deal

But along the way, she discovers much more than she bargained for - a tiny polar bear cub, desperately in need of her help. Also at the end there's a warning about not trying to befriend real polar bears which I enjoyed 10/10. In this book, April is trying to settle into her new life at home but, of course, missing her beloved Arctic friend.

I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. In freezing temperatures, April must navigate the dangerous Arctic terrain and face her deepest fears if she's to save him. Convincing her Dad to take her back to the Arctic, she only hopes she can make it in time and that her very best friend is okay. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling.

She hears that a polar bear gets shot and may be injured or dead and worried it’s her fiend Bear her and her Father travel over again to the cold Arctic. Full of action and danger, this book had me tense and hopeful that everything was going to turn out all right.

If you enjoy reading middle grade, like to read heartwarming adventure tales, and like subject matter which focuses on environmentalism, then this is the book for you! Friendship, courage, family bonds and the importance of not judging people on first impressions are also themes powerfully explored in the book. April is back in this sequel and is even more headstrong and determined to fight for the plight of polar battles and battle against climate change. Then there is the matter of her own survival… Finding Bear is a stunning story of survival, as well as a heartwarming tale of love and adventure. The magical bond between girl and bear taps into every child’s dream, but Gold also explores themes of grief and loss, and what it means to love enough to let go.

She teaches her young readers about the environment, climate change and the natural world by seamlessly weaving in these aspects to her story. Seventeen months after leaving the Arctic - after she had established a profound bond with the trapped polar bear she found wasting away - April is having difficulty settling into "normal" life, as she is bullied at school, and is unable to understand why people don't care about the climate crisis and the plight of the polar bears. I am beyond excited to go back to Svalbard with bear and A free falling in love with Hannah gold’s first book the last bear I have been anticipating this one so much. The Last Bear was her middle grade debut which became an inspirational, international bestseller on release in 2021. This story also touches on a father/daughter relationship after the loss of April’s mother, the relationship she and her father have with other family members, and how April navigates complex relationships with adults when she herself is still a child. Add in the truly amazing illustrations by Levi Pinfold and Finding Bear is a very special book indeed.

Obviously, April gets herself into some life-threatening situations but it's definitely not too much for the age range.I raced through Finding Bear in a couple of days and, considering the hype and the expectations, was not disappointed in the slightest! April is a character that gives us hope for future generations, and reminds us that we owe a huge responsibility to try to rectify what is going wrong in the world so that her generation aren't left picking up the pieces - indeed if there will be any left. Now, when I read The Last Bear by Hannah Gold I thought it was pretty close to perfection and would be impossible to beat.
