Sure, Sonny is a hothead, but it’s calm and cool Michael who ends up ascending to the throne by the end. The film is the story of Michael going from a decorated World War II veteran who tells his girlfriend “That’s my family, that’s not me” in the beginning to a Mafia don who rules with an iron fist and closes his wife out of his business dealings. Coppola begins his legendary trilogy, masterfully balancing the story of the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged. Based on Mario Puzo's best-selling novel and featuring career-making performances by Al Pacino, James Caan and Robert Duvall, this searing and brilliant film garnered ten Academy Award® nominations, and won three including Best Picture of 1972. These sets include the standard and deluxe presentations. As I said, details are amazing in this film and you can fully appreciate each and every frame from the moment little Vito steps off the boat at Ellis Island to the parade assassination of Fanucci to Michael’s confrontation with Fredo in Cuba. You can fully appreciate the texture in every garment, facial features, and some impeccable makeup work. Film grain is intact with a genuine true-to-source organically cinematic appearance. There are no overt signs of smoothing or notable uses of edge enhancement that I could see.In approaching his adaptation of Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola has said that he saw the story as “the tale of a great king,” Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando), who passed the best and worst of him to his three sons: passionate and aggressive Sonny (James Caan); sweet, childlike Fredo (John Cazale); and intelligent and cunning Michael (Al Pacino).

This is a handsome presentation that defines the concept of the classy, prestigious home video box set. It blows away the standard issue set for The discs present native 3840 x 2160p resolution images, all with the widescreen 1.85:1 aspect ratio, use 10-bit video depth, High Dynamic Range (HDR), a Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) and are encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec for Dolby Vison and HRD10. restoration in the time of Covid since the previous work in 2007, spearheaded by Gordon Willis and Robert A. In short: it's the best of both worlds, offering a classic film-like look that has not been "boosted"The Godfather: English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround,French, Spanish - Castilian, Spanish - Latin American Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround,English, French, Spanish - Castilian Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono Together, the films tell the epic story of the Corleone family, one of five that control organized crime in America in the mid-1940s. The Godfather opens with patriarch Vito (Marlon Brando) at the height of his power, celebrating the wedding of his daughter Connie (Talia Shire) and the return of his youngest son Michael (Al Pacino) home from fighting in World War II. Vito’s eldest, Sonny (James Caan), is poised to step into his father’s shoes with the help of Vito’s adopted son and consigliere, Tom (Robert Duvall). The idealistic Michael has just met the girl (Diane Keaton) he plans to marry, and has ambitious plans for a legitimate career in business or politics. Meanwhile, Fredo (John Cazale) is also there, quietly undervalued by all of them. But when Vito denies rival families involved in the narcotics trade the protection of his paid-for political connections (because he believes drugs are dishonorable), they try to assassinate him, and Michael is drawn ever more deeply into a life his father had hoped he’d escape. brute force to get their way. Don Vito's refusal to enter into the drug business, against the better Ilsa: Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks (1976) (Kino Cult) (US/UK) – Coming in 2024, confirmed by KLSC – N4K, DV The thing I really appreciated is how these restorations are a tribute to incredible makeup work. Vito’s aged appearance in the first film or Michael’s haggard appearance in this film stands up to scrutiny against the increased resolution. One of the unfortunate downsides with the 4K format is that often it can be a look behind the curtain. You can clearly spot dodgy special effects matting or even shoddy makeup work. Not for The Godfather films. If anything, the added details make you appreciate the work more because it’s so convincingly lifelike you’d swear a fifty-year-old Al Pacino was well into his late 60s with a variety of debilitating health conditions. Again, film grain is beautifully retained and natural to the film without looking smoothed out. Textures in clothing and the impressive production design details of the late 70s/early 80s New York to the lavish Vatican City to rustic locations of Sicily are on full display.
